Restoring Dawson Saloon

The Dawson Saloon is a single-story limestone building on the corner of College and Belknap Streets on Stephenville's historic square. The building was built in the early 1890s with a simple interior that was divided into two spaces, perhaps from its earliest days. The front of the building has been altered from its initial construction with limestone pillars defining the front of the structure to the mid-20th century when retail windows were installed over a brick base. Transom windows above the front opening have been covered up and a significant part of the renovation will be removal of the covering, replacement of the transom windows and open up the interior to the abundant Texas light. A restaurant will be the new resident.
